Section 508

Scroll down to learn more about Vigilent and Section 508.

SECTION 508

In 1998, the United States Congress amended the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 to require federal agencies to make their information technology accessible to people with disabilities, with the goal of removing barriers to access this technology. Section 508 applies to all federal agencies that develop, procure, maintain, or use information technology, requiring they provide disabled individuals with access that is comparable to that available to all others. The law does not regulate the information technology industry, nor does it require companies to make changes to their products to comply with Section 508.
