System Overview

Click for a closer look at the architecture of the Intelligent Energy Management System.

Vigilent Intelligent Energy Management™ systems and services are designed for two primary applications: large, commercial buildings, and data centers. Our systems are designed to be non-disruptive and transparent to an organization's IT infrastructure, and can be deployed with a little to no interruption in any work environment.

Wireless Sensors

Wireless sensors are used to collect temperature readings, and are placed at strategic locations throughout a facility to measure input and output temperatures. Typically they are applied using Velcro® fasteners, and can be stuck on walls, racks or devices.

The sensors are based on advanced mesh networking technology from Dust Networks®, which allows each node to be both a source and repeater for other nodes, allowing the network to automatically self-configure and be resilient to intermittent outages or changes in site layout.

The location of each sensor node is entered into the server through a friendly, web-based interface, which is also used to upload CAD drawings of the facility, allowing the location of each sensor to then be displayed on the graphic.

Key Terms

Commissioning – The start-up process in which the energy management system is installed, configured, and customized to its environment and node behaviors.

Mote – A sensor node in a wireless sensor network (WSN) that gathers environmental information, may perform some processing, and communicates with other nodes in the network.

Router – A router is a type of networking device used to route and forward data among computer networks. In a mesh network, each node is also a router.

Did You Know?

Mesh networks can easily be installed in existing facilities with little to no disruption. That's because each node in the network acts as an independent router, allowing automatic reconfiguration around broken or blocked paths. This allows self-healing; the network continues to work even if an intermediate connection fails or a mote malfunctions, resulting in very high reliability.
