Managing a data center in today's environment puts you at the center of a company's operations. It is the core infrastructure that enables business to take place, for people to communicate, and often is the pipeline to the vast majority of customer interactions. And, as you know, uptime and availability are two of the most important factors – every minute of downtime can mean that orders don't get booked, calls are missed, potential clients move on to other suppliers, or worse. Depending on the nature of your business, the very real cost may range from thousands to hundreds of thousands of dollars of lost opportunity or lost revenues each hour.
Many data centers are teetering on the brink – within the next two years, 42% of data centers will run out of cooling, power, or space. For many, the brute force approach to addressing cooling has been to overcool. But as it turns out, the freezing gales that blast through these facilities are doing little more than masking the underlying problems, and running up an enormous power bill at the same time.
Among the many mission-critical assets under your management, cooling is likely to be one that has been overlooked. It's a resource, like any other, and to effectively take advantage of it, it needs to be measured, modeled and managed.
Properly managed, your cooling plant can become an effective tool to ensure greater uptime and to enable expansion of your facility and services. And an intelligent energy management system from Vigilent provides the capabilities you need to transform cooling from a necessary expense into a managed resource which fuels your organization's growth.
When you choose Vigilent, we'll work with you on-site to profile your facility. Installation is quick, usually taking a day, sometimes two. We'll place wireless mesh network-based sensors throughout your data center, measuring inlet air temperatures at the appropriate locations. We provide a server, and connection to your CRACs for direct machine control. When we're done, the system will spend five to ten hours provoking responses, building the initial profile that will be used to start exerting control over temperature to achieve your objectives.
Our system has a web-based interface, so you can access its console and many reports wherever is most convenient. And you'll have up-to-the-minute data and recommendations that you can use to fine-tune your operations to get the most out of your existing capacity. In fact, with our built-in planning tools, you'll be able to explore "what-if" scenarios, plan for expansion, and in many cases, find that you can leverage the cooling units already in place to handle a bigger load than you might have imagined.
Once installed, IT managers at data centers with our systems installed often have this to say: "It just works. I don't have to think about it." That's been our goal all along, that you can rely on the sophisticated artificial intelligence at the core of our system to free yourself up to address the myriad of other issues you face each day. By managing cooling within the parameters you define, our energy management system gives you the control you need.
